Creating a Butterfly and Bird-Friendly Garden

Attract beautiful wildlife to your garden and enjoy the peaceful presence of butterflies and songbirds throughout the seasons.

Transform your garden into a haven for butterflies and birds, adding movement, color, and delightful sounds to your outdoor space.

For butterflies, plant nectar-rich flowers like coneflowers, zinnias, and butterfly bush. Include host plants like milkweed for monarchs. Create sunny spots where butterflies can warm their wings, and provide shallow dishes with water and pebbles.

Attract birds with native plants that produce berries and seeds. Sunflowers, coneflowers, and serviceberries are excellent choices. Install bird feeders at various heights and keep them clean and filled.

Add a birdbath with fresh water, changing it every few days. Position it near shrubs where birds can quickly retreat if threatened. Avoid pesticides, which harm both butterflies and birds.

Create layers in your garden with trees, shrubs, and ground covers to provide shelter and nesting sites. The joy of watching wildlife will enhance your garden experience immeasurably.
